Home Remedies For Bronchitis

According to Ayurveda, an intake of incompatible foods and internal generation or exposure to toxic substances cause the vitiation, leading to bronchial problems.

  • Rub the throat and chest with garlic oil or cayenne extract to break up mucus and alleviate coughs.
  • Mix 1 teaspoon garlic oil, and 3 teaspoons honey. Take 3 times a day.
  • Fifty grams of fresh leaves of spinach, and 250 ml of water should be mixed with a pinch of ammonium chloride and one teaspoonful of honey. This infusion is an effective expectorant in the treatment of bronchitis.
  • Take cayenne, garlic, and ginger to heal the bronchial tubes.
  • Chicory or endive is another effective home remedy for bronchitis. The powder of the dry root of this herb should be given in doses of half a teaspoon mixed with one teaspoonful of honey thrice daily. It is a very useful expectorant in chronic bronchitis.
  • One of the most effective home remedy for bronchitis is the use of turmeric powder. Half a teaspoon of this powder should be administered with half a glass of milk, two or three times daily. It acts best when taken on an empty stomach.
  • Take 2 tablespoonfuls (about 30 ml) of mustard oil or any other vegetable oil. Warm it well. Dissolve about 2 gms of camphor in the oil. Apply this oil gently all over the chest, neck and back. Do not massage. Allow the oil to work for a few minutes. Later, give a dry fomentation. This is a simple measure, generally good for all ages. Make sure that your skin is not allergic to camphor.
  • Fresh air and outdoor exercise are also essential for the treatment of bronchitis. The patient is advised to take a morning walk every day.
  • Take 3-4 fresh betel leaves and boil them in about 250 ml of water till the quantity of water is reduced to half. Strain the decoction and add 2 teaspoonsful of honey while the liquid is still warm but not very hot. Taking this recipe as a supplement may ease your problem during an attack of breathlessness.
